Goat Feed Advice

  • Fancy Feed Goat Mixes should be fed as required alongside forage. Guidelines for quantities can be found on the sack.
  • Divide the concentrate ration into two or more small meals.
  • Make any changes to diet gradually over 7 to 14 days to avoid upsetting the bacterial population of the rumen - this ferments the feed and is sensitive to sudden changes.
  • Ad lib forage (grass, hay, haylage) should be available year-round and should comprise a minimum of 40 - 50% of the total daily ration. Fibre is important for gut health and is fermented to fatty acids by the bacteria in the rumen. These in turn help comprise the fat content of a goat’s milk.
  • Chopped alfalfa products, such as Alfalfa Blend from the Baileys Horse Feed range, are ideal sources of additional good quality protein and fibre.
  • Fresh clean water should be available at all times.
